Official Flag Established
In order to better represent the new nation, the Continental Congress passed the First Flag Act. This act said that the flag of America be made of thirteen stripes, alternate red and white, and that the union be made of blue with thirteen white starts representing a now Constellation. This flag is now also known as the Betsy Ross. -
Act of January 13, 1794
This act called for the flag to have 15 stripes and 15 stars after May 1795 -
Act of April 4, 1818
The Act of April 4, 1818 provided for 13 stripes and one star for each state. Each star was to be added to the flag on the fourth of July following the admission of each new state. -
Executive order of President Eisenhower
An executive order of President Eisenhower provided that the arrangement of the stars be in nine rows staggered horizontally and eleven rows of stars be staggered vertically.
