    The French and English came later.The French took on a certain interest in fisheries and the fur trade. In the early 1600 the French settled alonng the the Northern Atlantic Coast and the St. Lawrence River ( which is now apart of Canada).

    The English came around the same time as the French.(1600-1700). Instead of settling North, they settles South on rivers and bays along the Atlantic Coast. They made their first settlement in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607.

    The Europeans often displaced Native Americans. In 1617, they started shipping Africans to America to work as slaves on the European plantations in the South. They grow cotton, tobacco, and ect. As time went by the Europeans started what they called the "Columbian Exchange."

Louisiana Purchase was when America bought vast plain region from French, it allowed Americans to move all the way to the Rocky Mountians.

It normally to up to six months to get from the Eastcoast to the Westcoast. By 1890 about 17 million people lived between the Mississippi and the Pacific.

But they also wanted to protect individual freedoms and prevent the government from abusing its power. They believed they could do this by having three separate branches of government: the executive, the legislative and the judicial.
