In 1565 Spain found St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest perment in European settlement in the U.S. -
When the French came (early 1600)
The French and English came later.The French took on a certain interest in fisheries and the fur trade. In the early 1600 the French settled alonng the the Northern Atlantic Coast and the St. Lawrence River ( which is now apart of Canada). -
The English Arrived (1600-1700)
The English came around the same time as the French.(1600-1700). Instead of settling North, they settles South on rivers and bays along the Atlantic Coast. They made their first settlement in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607. -
Who did the English Bring with them? (1617)
The Europeans often displaced Native Americans. In 1617, they started shipping Africans to America to work as slaves on the European plantations in the South. They grow cotton, tobacco, and ect. As time went by the Europeans started what they called the "Columbian Exchange." -
Establishing & Maintaning the Union (1763)
Sooner or later the French and Europe had to fight. So they did. They fought in North America over trade and territory. In 1763, Great Britian gianed control over all of the land east of Mississippi River, but it was a short control. -

After awhile the 13 Colonies got tried of the laws Britain was giving them. So they started to protest, that started the American Revoultion and the founding of the United States of America. -
New Land (Louisiana Purchase)1803
America started to grow rapidly and people started to move west towards the Mississippi River. In 1803, America doulbe in size because of the Louisiana Purchase. Louisiana Purchase was when America bought vast plain region from French, it allowed Americans to move all the way to the Rocky Mountians. -

Around the 1840s people started to show alot of pride and loyaltyto their area rather then their nation. this started to raise political and economic tensions between the North and South. -
Civil War (1861-1865)
The Civil War was a four year war between the North and South. Under Aberham Lincon's presidentcy. It was one of the most bloodiest wars in America. -
Moving West (1900s)
After th Civil War people begin to move west again. but this time they traveled by horses and covered wagons. Most people used trails so they wouldn't get lost. It normally to up to six months to get from the Eastcoast to the Westcoast. By 1890 about 17 million people lived between the Mississippi and the Pacific. -
European Invaiders (1860s-1900s)
As people started to settle west the Europeans started to pour in. About 14 million came between 1860s and 1900s. when they arrived some moved west and others stayed in the large cities on the Eastcoast. -

In the early 20th century begn the U.S started to grow powerful. By the end of the century it would be on of the most powerful places in the world. During their growth they tried to stay away from involving themselves with other countrys. -

As the 1960s started to arrive the Civil Rights movement started.It was the fight for African Americans to gain equal rights for them selves.this started alot more right during those years. -
The Third World War
while the African Americans fought for thier rights. the U.S became the leader in world's non-Communist nations. their goal was to stop the spread of Communist, spread by Russia. this started what the people called the Cold War. -
Europe Breaks Down (1991)
After Europe collapsed in 1991 the U.S became the world's main superpower. As time went on the U.S used their diplomatic and military power to keep peace to American interests in the country. -
The constitution (1787-2010)
The Constitution was adopted on September 17, 1787, by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and ratified by conventions in each U.S. state in the name of "The People". But is still used today. -
3 Branches (1787-2010)
In 1787 leaders of the states gathered to write the Constitution.The leaders of the states wanted a strong and fair national government. But they also wanted to protect individual freedoms and prevent the government from abusing its power. They believed they could do this by having three separate branches of government: the executive, the legislative and the judicial.
