  • Homestead Act of 1862

    Homestead Act of 1862
    The Homestead Act took place in the United States and was in 1862. The people who were involved were the Congress, farmers, settlers, and American citizens. There was a settler that lived on this land for five years and always paid a filling fee, so the Congress gave him 160 acres for free. The significant part about the Homestead Act was how the homesteader's came to the Plains to be an independent individual and to won their own land.
  • Fetterman Massacre

    Fetterman Massacre
    The event was taken place in Montana. The people who were there was the Sioux, Cheyenne, and the Arapaho warriors. Crazy Horse, the Indian military leader, put the U.S. troops into a trap. The Sioux were set and ready to ambush everyone that would come upon them and ended up wiping out all of the U.S. troops.
  • 1874 Discovery

    1874 Discovery
    The government had decided that the white people should not go on or even pass through the Black Hills of the Dakotas. There was a rumor going around that these hills contained gold. But then in 1874 the Sioux Indians had trespassers with was Custer and his army going to see if there actually was gold. The government then tried to buy the land off of the Sioux but the leader of the Sioux said no.
  • Battle of Little Bighorn

    Battle of Little Bighorn
    This is continued from the Discovery of 1874. The United States Army was forced to lead the Native Americans to a reservation. George Custer wanted to be known as something so he divided his army and attacked the Native Americans. Custer's army was out numbered the Native Americans killed Custer and his entire command. The Lakota and Cheyenne finally agreed later on to move to a reservation.
  • Teaty of Fort Laramie

    Teaty of Fort Laramie
    The event took place in the western part of the United States. The people who were involved were the Americans, Europeans, and Indians. The Americans clashed violently then the Native Americans had to preserve there lands and their way of life. In the spring of 1868 there was a treaty that the whites would bring peace with the Sioux.
  • Wounded Knee

    Wounded Knee
    The Lakota Sioux were sad about the death of Sitting Bull so the got together at Wounded Knee which was a creek. The army finally went to take all the Sioux's weapons but as they were doing that some pistol shot happened and the fight started with killing 200 Sioux's and 25 soldiers. The Wounded Knee area ended the fighting against the whites and the Native Americans.
  • Ghost Dance

    Ghost Dance
    The Sioux's culture was being destroyed so they made up a ritual called Ghost Dance. As the dance got bigger the reservation officails got concerned and banned the dance. Sitting Bull was their chief so he got arrested because of the dance. During an agrument they shot Sitting Bull.
