Cnimu Empire
THe Cnimu Empire was one of the first prehispanic new world states. It dominated most of the north coast of Peru. The capital, Chanchan, was established between 900-1000. By the fifteenth century, Chanchan had developed to one of the largest urban settlements and making Cnimu one of the most powerful polities in the prehispanic Americas. -

Inca
THe inca, a great civilization in the Andes Moutains, had created a kingdom by the 1200s. In 1438, Pachuti became ruler and started a campaign that expanded the empire's size. It grew through military conquet and the Incas allowed new people to enter the empire by sworn loyalty to the emporor. By 1500, the Inca had strected from across the Andes all the way south to Chile and Argentina. -

Anasazi
Ancient Native Americans, called the Anasazi, were a culture centered around southern Utah, Northeastern Arizo, Northern New Mexico and southwestern Colorado. They started building pueblos from 500-1300. However, they lived in a variety of structures including pit houses and cliff dwellings, which provided security. Reseachers decided that the ANcient Puebloans are ancestors of contemporary Pueblo peoples. -

Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus was a navigator born in the Repubilc of Genoa. He set sail in August of 1492, trying to reach Asia, but instead landed on an island in the Bahamas, claiming it for spain. CHristopher initial journey was to find gold and spices, but instead he found a new world, only because he sailed west rather than east. -

John Cabot
John Cabot was an explorer who discovered parts of North America in 1497. He arrived to the New World by his ship, Matthew, that was able to carry 50 tons of cargo. John was the first Eueropean since the vikings to explore the Main land. He claimed land in Canada for England and began the first British pressence in North America. -
Mayan Civilization
Beginning about 250 AD, the Mayan world ended in the late 800s. The Maya was a civilization in what is today southern Mexico and North Central America. They continued living in the area, but were not as powerful as before. Some explanations are many people were driven out of the cities from a growing war within them and the soil became less productive leaving them no longer a thriving trade civilization. -
Tikal
Tikal is one of the largest archeological sites of the pre-columbian civilization, standing at 154 feet high. It is located in the region of the Peten Basin in what is now present day Northern Guatamal. Tikal thrived from 200-900. Tikal was the capital of a tate that became one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient Maya. -
Toltec Culture
The Toltec culture is an archeoloical culture that dominated in Tula, Hidalgo from 800-1000. The Aztecs saw them as their intellectual and cultural predecssors.The Toltecs surpassed others due to their knowledge and understanding of arcitecture snd art.
