    This was a bribery scandal presented by Harding while he was in office. This is said to be the worst scandal of American history ever. Ths was a large oil field publicly owned that was set aside for Navy. Alot of money was given away and it made Harding alot less popular.

    This amendment was ratified August 18, 1920 and allows both sexes to vote. This was the frst step to women haveng the same rights as men and being treated right.

    the 1920 election was dominated by Harding because he was republican and Woodrow Wilson (democratic) was unpopular because of the previous years of war. Harding was important because he promised a return to normalcy.

    In 1922, on Lake Peplin in Minnesota, Ralph Samuelson invented watersking. Today this is a huge sport I really enjoy. This was one of hundreds of sports things that happened in the twenties.

    Started in January 1923. A violent and racial battle fought in Florida. This massacre killed 6 blacks and 2 whites. Showed that america was afraid of foreigners still.

    Leupold and Loeb
    These were two wealthy men who were students at the University of Chicago who had the urge to commit the perfect crime. The men killed a boy named Bobby Franks in 1924. They had Charles Darrow represent them and they were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

    This is also known as the Scopes Trial because John Scopes was accused of teaching evolution in school which was illegal to do. This brought in big time lawyers like Charles Darrow and Scopes was found guilty but was never punished due to a technicality. This shows that the USA was leaning more towards science than religion.

    Saco and Venzetti were two italian immigrants that were convicted of murder and armed robbery. This happened in Massachusetts and they were executed August 23, 1927. Showed foreigners were treatewd unfairly.

    Babe Ruth sets Homerun Record
    Babe Ruth set the all-time homerun list with 60 in 1927. The record has been broken but he still holds the record for most homeruns in a 10 year period at just under 400. Thats about an average of 40 per year.

    In 1928, penicillin was discovered. This was a HUGE thing because it was a very effective antibiotic and was critical in WWII. The only down side to penicillin is many people are allergic.

    Al Capone put a hit on George Moran and Capones men killed 7 of Moran's men. Moran and Capone blamed eachother. This put gang violence and organized crme at an all time high. These men were the men makng illegal alcohol also.
