    French & Indian War
    The French & Indian War was caused because of competition over land in the Ohio River Valley, conflict over trade routes, and competition over trade alliances. The war lasted for seven years. This war was important and lead to the Revolution because it was the beginning of the conflicts between the colonists and the natives. This event caused the British to then put taxes the colonists in return for their help in the war.
  • Proclamation Line on 1763

    The colonists begin to move into the Ohio River Valley which is the territory of the natives. The fighting between the two began to increase greatly. King George then created a line after the end of the Appalachians. The colonists weren’t allowed to cross and settle west of the line. This was supposed to help the natives from the colonists invading.

    The Declaratory Act made it so that the colonists couldn’t make any laws or anything without the British saying that they can. The Declaratory Act subtly hinted that more acts would be coming soon. This Act was copied from the Irish Declaratory Act. The colonists had been self-governing for hundreds of years while in America, and then all of the sudden the King made them follow his rules. This made the colonists angry and more power hungry.

    The Sugar Act lowered the taxes from the Molasses Act of 1733. The goal of the Sugar Act was to decrease colonial smuggling in West Indies. The colonists didn’t like this idea at all because sugar was a continuously bought item and they put an indirect tax on it, which means money was added to the cost of sugar. This act was important because it started to cause rebellion by the colonists and many more acts began to be made. Then the British started issuing Writs of Assistance.
  • Boston Massacre of 1770

    Boston Massacre of 1770
    The Boston Massacre was the result of the British Military sent over to make sure that the Boston citizens paid their taxes. The British were standing with their guns ready to fire if anything bad happened. The citizens of Boston were taunting the British and throwing things at them. They colonists even hit them with clubs. A British Militant heard someone yell fire. Then all of them started firing, resulting in 5 dead colonists and many wounded people.

    The tea act raised the tax on tea in Boston. If not everyone, most American colonists drank tea on a regular day basis. This tax was not liked by anyone. Therefore, in Boston, some people decided to dress up like Indians and take all the tea that was on a ship and throw it overboard. The tea turned the bay brown for a couple months and the Britain lost all the money that that tea was worth.
  • Declaration of Independence 1776

    Declaration of Independence 1776
    The Declaration of Independence was primarily written by Thomas Jefferson. This document declares that the 13 colonies are now independent from Great Britain. The continental congress came up with the idea of this document. Thomas Jefferson mostly used other writer’s words in his document. He wasn’t trying to show that he was a good writer, he just wanted to get his point across that our independence is crucial.
