The Safety Pin
Walter Hunt got a U.S. paten on April 10, 1849. It was made to keep you from pricking yourself by having a clasp and spring action. The safety pin was very helpful during the civil war. The pins were used to keep soldiers clothes together, though they meant to only be used to hold things temporarily. They became a necessity when they did not have time nor supplies to constantly sew each and every tear in their uniforms. A debt he owed forced him to sell his patent for four-hundred dollars. -
The Sewing Machine
The Sewing Machine was invented by Isaac Singer. It was the first sewing machine invented using a foot pedal and the first successful commercial machine. At first, the machine was overpriced and unsuccesful. In 1847 however, he splurged in opening his own company of sewing machines. Ever since, the Singer Sewing machine has done well in the market. http://web.mit.edu/invent/iow/singer.html
