    Terror in Stalin´s regime! Stalin decided to "clear out" his opponents in the party. In great "show trials" loyal Bolsheviks confessed to being traitors to the state. Around 500 thousand party members were arrested on charges of anti-Soviet activities and either executed or sent to labour camps (gulags).

    Senior Nazis met to discuss the systematic killing of all Jews within Germany and German-occupied territory. Slave labor and death camps were built. The old, the sick and young children were killed immediately. The able-bodied were used for slave labor. Some were used for appalling medical experiments. 6 million Jews, 500 thousand gypsies, countless political prisoners, Jehovah´s Witnesses, homosexuals and Russian and Polish prisoners of war were gassed, or shot here.

    With the enactment of apartheid laws in 1948, racial discrimination was institutionalized. Race laws touched every aspect of social life, including a prohibition of marriage between non-whites and whites, and the sanctioning of ``white-only'' jobs. In 1950, the Population Registration Act required that all South Africans be racially classified into one of three categories: white, black (African), or colored (of mixed decent). The coloured category included major subgroups of Indians and Asians.

    Biko died for the struggle against Apartheid
    Biko was arrested on four separate occasions. On his final incarceration, he was taken into custody on August 21, 1977 and was held in Port Elizabeth. One day after his According to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, “Biko sustained a head injury during interrogation, after which he acted strangely and was uncooperative. The doctors who examined him (naked, lying on a mat and manacled to a metal grille) initially disregarded overt signs of neurological injury.” He died on September 12.
