JC R Licklider of MIT first proposed a global network of computers and moved over to Defensive Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Packet swtiching developed and was used to form the basic of internet connections -
Dial Up Connection Successful in US
Lawrence Roberts of MIT connected a computer in Massachusetts with one in California over dial up telephone lines. It showed the ability of wide area networking. -

ARPANET
ARPANET (Advanced Research Project Agency) plan (the previous form of Internet) initially connected four major computers at universities: UCLA, STANFORD, UC SANTA BARBARA, and UNIVERSITY OF UTAH. BBN of Cambridge MASS worked in conjunction to go online in December of 1969. -
Email Emerges and Protocols Created
The internet was now available for internet discussion and two protocols were developed: TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol) and IP (Internet Protocol) -
