  • Battle of Vimy Ridge(1)

    Battle of Vimy Ridge(1)
    Who? French, British and Canadian Troops
    What? A battle aggenst the German's to capture Vimy Ridge
    Where? Vimy Ridge in northern France
    When? April 1917, Canadian tropps held Vimy on April 9, 1917
    Why? After both French and British troops faild to capture Vimy, Canadian troops were given the assignment.

    I think that if this event never happened, Canada wouldn't of had as good military reconization and it wou ld of damponed the spirits of the Canadian troops as of being the third country to try and captuire Vimy.

    Significance: In my opinion this was a significant event in Canadian history because it was the first time Canadian troops faught togeather as one. Until Vimy, Canadian troops had faught as part of British units and being able to fight togeather and win after two other countires has tried and faild was a big confidence booster for Canadian troops. This showed other countries that we could get the job done when it is presented to us.

    Who? Canadian Ace Roy Brown and German Ace the Red Baron
    What? The Red Baron was in a dog fight with a Canadian poliet Wilfird "Wop" May when Roy brown saw and went to May's rescue
    Where? Didn't have a location
    When? April 21, 1918
    Why? Roy went to the rescue of Wilfird, fired shots at the Red Baron and one killed him saving Wilfird's life.

    Significance: In my opinion, this was a significant event in Canadian history because it was a Canadian pilot that killed a very strong Gereman pilot when many could not. After many deaths of other pilots, the Red Baron was one that was hard to beat and for a Canadian Ace to be able to beat him would of a big accomploshiment for Canadian Armed Forces. As well as Vimy it showed that we could try our best when in action.

    I think that if this event nevet happened, Canada would probably of lost two great pilots in the fight aggenst the Red baron. It might of made Canadian Air Froces try harder to teach there pilots better so they could of killed more people that they needed. But i think that if this event never happened, Canada would of lost two great pilots.

    I think that if this event never happened, Canada would be alot harder on women and many laws today that we have aggenst men and women being the same and being able to do the same jobs ect. wouldn't be here and many women would still be in the "mother" scence. This scene is staying at home, and doing work like looking after children, house cleaning, teacher.

They were able to join politic's It also gave alot more women the opportunitie to divorce there husbands under a few circimctaces. Even though alot of laws were changed, some still did not apply to women.

Also, the first major city in Canada was Quebec City and have this be in Quebec it was a good thing that it was keep here so that we would have all our history protected for us to be able to teach to people like me.

    Why? Women were allowed to join the air force, but were not allowed to fight in the air but were allowed to perform other duties such as fly mail and supplies. Women were allowed to joing the navy, but were not allowed to fight still they were allowed to perform other duties such as cooks, driversm wekders ect.
