Uses crayons and paints with some skill, may have unpredictable mood swings, asks lots of "how-what-when-where-why" questions, begin to read books that are right for his or her age. -
7 years old:
Learn sports involving good physical control, starts to feel guilt and shame, uses a vocabulary of several thousand words, able to solve more complex problems. -
8 years old:
Lose about four baby teeth each year, have rapidly changing emotions, working on spelling and grammar in their written work, can tell the difference between right and left. -
9 years old:
Start to show a growth pattern related to gender, have more stable emotions, can read and understand longer, like organization and planning. -
10 years old:
Fascinated with how the body works, becomes more and more self-conscious, concerned about personal abilities, read and understand a paragraph of complex sentences. -
11 years old:
Puberty might have already started, expects moodiness, distress, and happiness, face more academic challenges at school, become more independent from the family. -
12 years old:
Begins puberty and right at the beginning of a typical age, will be moments of happiness, bumps of sadness (will repeat), abstract thinking, problem-solving, logic, impulse control, and organizational skills.
