    Moa Zedong, the leader of eth communist party in China led 90,000 of his followers from their communist base in Jiangxi 6 thousand miles to the last Communist base in Yan'an. Only about 9,000 of the 90,000 that started out on the trek made it the whole way, one year later. Moa was one of the survivors.

  • VE Day

    VE Day
    May 8th, 1945, marks the date of celebration for the victory of the Western Allies over Germany at the end of WWII. The day before, on May 7th,the western allies broke through the Siegfried Line, protecting West Germany and proceeded to take over the state.This was the official day of victory for Europe.
  • VJ Day

    VJ Day
    Victory in Japan day is also associated with the dates of August 14 and 15th, becuase the American Public recieved news of Japan's surrender to the Western Allies on the 14th, which was the 15th on Japan's time. But, on September 2nd was teh actual date of japan's unconditional surrender of board the USS Missori. This event marked the offcial end to WWII.

    Formation of Isreal
    After being persicuted for hundreds of years, and now the Holocuast the Jews could not catch a break, and they had no place to call there home, after there homes had been taken over by other Europeans during the madness of WWII. The jewish people needed a homeland, somewhere that they could share culture and tradition. On Novemebr 29th, 1947, the UN voted to make Palestine into the State of Israel which caused many future problems.

  • Berlin Air lift

    When the Soveits set up a barracade around East Germany from any outsiders, the people of West Berlin ( which was under the control of the Western Allies) was left abonded because trucks and tanks were not allowed inside the bordes of East Germany. 2.5 million people were inside west Belin and needed provisions so the berlin Airlift was 200,000 flights over the course of about 15 months were used to transport goods to West Berlin until May 12th.

  • The formation of the OAS

    The formation of the OAS
    In 1948, the Organization of American States was formed as a charter of the OAS, and signed with Bogota and Columbia. Today there are 35 independent staes involved. The purposs of the OAS is to keep "an order of peace and justice, to promote their solidarity, to strengthen their collaboration, and to defend their sovereignty, their territorial integrity, and their independence.” As staed in article one.

  • NATO was created.

    Created April 4th, 1949, the North at Lantic treaty organization was established to keeo the peace between the western world. The Treaty's moto was "an attack on one is an attack on all". If one county was attacked, all of the rest of the countries involved would help and would also be at war with the attcking country. The original members are Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, now there are 26 members.

    After many civil wars, in 1949, the nationalist vs. communist civil war was put to rest when Moa Zedong announced the formation of the People's republic of China, and himelf the leader of it all.   • Communist North Korea Invades South Korea

    Initially, Korea was divided into North and South with the intentions of reuniting, but when the communist in the north attacked the capital fo South Korea, Seoul, the Korean war began. By September, the UN troops had joined forces with the south, and soon after China joined with the north. The war was never officially ened and Korea is still divded today.   • Battle of Inchon

    The battle of Inchon was the amphibious landing and attack made the the UN troops let by General MacArthur against North Koreans, 5 days ealier, the ships set off from Japan and the Koreans never expected anything. Becuase the North Korean Peoples Had invaded south Korea, they were now in the city of Pusan, and General Macarthur's plan was to invade on the peninsula at the city of Pusan. This battle was a huge sucess for the UN troops,

    Armistice to Stop fighting in korea
    The Korean war spand for a little over three years. With in that time, the caoital of South Korea, Seoul, chanegd hands four times. Both the north and south were hit hard by this war and neither side showed signs of giving in, so on July 27th, an armistice was siged to stop teh fighting of the war, but this did not compleatly end the war.     Dien Bien Phu was the site of the battles that took place during 1953-54. The Viet Minh ( the vietnamese who wanted their independence from France) fought a war of indepndence against the French army, who was supportened by the Indochinese. This was a great victory for Vietnam who defeated the powerful french Army.

    The Suea Canal. built in Egypt, by Egyptian laborers, was controlled by teh Brittish who recieved most of teh income. Abdul Nasser. leader of Egypt, felt this was unjust so on July 26th, 1956 was nationalized so that Egypt was recieve the income they deserved from the canal. This started problems between Egypt and Great Britain, but dispite the fact, the UN , the US and the USSR, supported thsi Arab nation.

    Catro's Communist forces take over Cuba
    The old ruler of Cuba, Fulgenico Bastista had been in charge since 1934. But, as Catro's revolutionaries grew stronger, so did the opposition. Finally, in decenber of 1958, Bastista fled, and on new years day, 1959, Fidel castro and him communist party took over Cuba.

    Bay of Pigs Invasion
    After the island of Cuba was taken over by Fidel Castro, who repplaced Bastista, the U.S, pleased with the ridence of Bastista, also wanted Castro out. 1,500 trained Cuban exiles to lead a revolt against the commist party lead by Castro, and to rally other cubans up against the goverment. On April 17th,1961, the exiles landed on the island and tryed but failed. The Cubans did not join the revolt and the exiles were killed and captured.

  • The creation of the Alliance for Progress

    The Alliance for Progerss was created by the U.S to aid the Latin American countries in hopes that they would not follow Cuba with communism. President John F. Kennedy was for this Alliance which sent 20 billion dollars to these Latin American countries to help with their extreme poverty and government expenses.     The Cultural revolution in China, lead by Moa was the 10 year era of change in China. Groups such as the red Guards were set in place to control the country and detroy the four olds which were, old ideas, culture customs and habbits.   • The 6 Day War

    The 6 Day War
    The 6 Day war was the battle between Israel and there Arab neighbors such as Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Iraq. On the first day alone, the Israeli army did great damage to the Egyptian air force. After 4 days, the Israelis gained control of the area of land known as the West Bank. And finally on day 6, the Israeli army beat out the Syrian army and took over Golan Heights.     Mexican Student Lead Revolt
    In Tlatelolco square in Mexico City, on the evening of October 2nd, 1968, thousands of students and residents of the area gathered to protest government policies. After hours of peaceful protest, police and army personal were given the signal to open fire on the crowd. At least 300 people were killed and thousands more were wounded and or arrested.

    The 1972 Munich olympics
    The summer olympics of 1972 took place in Munich Germany. This was the first appearance of the newly formed Israeli team at the olympics. On the mourning of September 5th, a group of Palestinian terrorists called the Black Septemebr captured the male atheles and after a full day of negotiations and planning, 9 Israelis were killed.     When the Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia, and entered the city of Phnom Penh on the mourning of April 17th, 1975, people rejoiced, but the celebreation did not last long. In 5 years the Rhmer Rouge, led by Pol Pot, a ruthless terrorist leader 1.7 million of hisown Cambodian people simply becuase he wanted complete controll. They called the killings of these people " scilencing the opposition". The Khmer rouge used fear to control the people.

    U.S Presidnet Carter, Invited Begin, the leader if Israel and Sadat, the leader of Egypt to Camp David, a special Camp for the Presidents. Here, in secret of corse, with the help of President Carter, Begin and Sadat, worked out a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, two coutries who were once at war with each other, who were enemies had made peace.

  • Tiannenmen Square

    Tiannenmen Square
    Outside the Forbidden City, on a summer afternoon, a portest for democracy took place in China, at Tiannenmen Square. This was a huge open area with thousands of people. The rebel movements had been going on for months, but never violently. But this afternoon, the Chinese govenment sent army personal armed with tanks, trucks and artillary. Thousands of stuednt protestors were killed.
