eastern european independanceEastern European countries being run under communism had terrible economies and were fed up with it. the demands for freedom were happening in hungary, poland, and east Germany. In all the countries, change was needed and the poeple of the country changed it for them. -

detenteThis was an era in the 70's when there was a relaxation of tensions. the idea was to restrain russia politically but this was ended in 1979 when russia invaded Afghanistan. -

afghanistanAfghanistan was trying to become communist, so the soviets backed them up. Rebels did not want to change so they fought against it. America snuck the rebels supplies to help them. The soviets had little success here and was like the vietnam war for America. -
Soviet Union falls
Since war could happen at any time, both America and the Soviet Union had to put money towards their millitary. To keep up with the American millitary, the Soviet Union had to put all their money towards their millitary. Which eventually ruined their economy, and forced the soviets to fall.
