Background
Ruslan's mother died when he was very little and now he lives with his father, Yusuf the mechanic. He works as a waiter in a local restaurant. -
Setting
The story takes place in Meulaboh, Indonesia in December of 2005. -
Exposition

Ruslan, an Indonesian teenager who lives in the area that was hit by a tsunami
Sarah, a teenage girl who doesn't care about the Indonesian traditions -

The tsunami hits -

Ruslan's dad goes missing. Sarah & Peter's mom dies and their dad is lost with a broken ankle -

Ruslan steals a motorbike, some oil, and some shoes to go and search for his lost father -

Ruslan finds out his father was not in town when the tsunami hit -

Sarah buries her dead mother and finds Peter stuch under a log with a nasty cough. She realizes he needs a doctor, but they have to search for their dad and their boat. -

Ruslan get stopped at a military checkpoint, and, worrying that he will be imprisoned, escapes. -

Sarah & Peter find a fishing boat and start to go to Calang, where there is a doctor for Peter. -
