The story takes place in Puyallup, WA. -

Rising Action 1/Conflict
Brendan goes to the mall with Gladys. He notices a Rock and Mineral show and goes to check it out. A man named Ed offers Brendan some Double-Refracting Calcite. Gladys comes over, then drags Brendan away. Brendan realizes that Ed was his grandpa who he is not allowed to see for unknown reasons. -
Rising Action 2
Brendan decides to secretly visit Ed to ask him questions about why he left. Khal decides to go with him -
Rising Action 3
Brendan gets no answers from Ed. The next day, he goes to the park with Khal to practice Tae Kwon Do. While taking a break in the creek to look for rocks, the 2 get attacked by 4 white boys. Brendan gets a huge cut from the fight. The white boy says that he thought black people had purple blood. -
Rising Action 4
Ed invites Brendan to rock club, but doesn't introduce Brendan as his Grandson. While at the rock club, Brendan sees a rock called a Thunder Egg and wants one for himself. -
Rising Action 5
Gladys discovers that Brendan went to rock club with Ed and gets mad. Brendan learns that Ed would not let Mom see her mother before she died of stroke. -
Rising Action 6
Brendan decides he want to see Ed again. He creates a plan... -
Climax
Brendan, after seeing Ed yet again, gets an answer to why he shouldn't see Ed. Ed didn't want Mom and Dad to get married because Dad was black. -
Falling Action 1
Brendan calls Ed to see if they can go dig for Thunder Eggs. Ed says yes. They'll go on Saturday. -
Falling Action 2
Ed and Brendan are looking for Thunder Eggs. Ed digs a hole where the Eggs might be, and falls in. Brendan goes to find help to get Ed out. -
Falling Action 3
At a Tae Kwon Do match, Brendan breaks the board, but doesn't accept the belt because he wasn't honest about seeing Ed. -
Resolution 1
Brendan's parents forgive Brendan for what he did. A few weeks later, Ed comes to Brendan's house to give him the Thunder Egg he found on the 11th. The Thunder Egg is actually Ellensburg Blue agate and is worth $200! -
Resolution 2
Ed and Mom forgive eachother and apologize.
