Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu was built around 1450 at the height of the Incan empire. It is about 8000 feet above sea level. 122 years later, nearly 90 perent of the people were wiped out by a small pox outbreak there. This was caused by a spanish conquest to try and take over the land. -

Columbian Exchange
When Christopher Columbus landed in america, he not only brought people, but new ideas and goods. There were many things exchanged from the "new world" to the "old world". Some exchanges include, but are not limited to, bees, cats, carmel, sheep, cows, goats, and pig. All the new world brought was alpacas, llamas, and turkeys. -

Christopher Columbus
In 1492, Christopher set sail out of a spanish port leading three ships. His destination was in Asia, but happened to land a little of course in modern day america. Nobody really knows where he first stepped foot as it is still being debated 500 years after the fact. Other spanish explorers include Montazuma and Francisco Pizarro. -

Bartolome de Las Casas
Bartolome was a Spanish dominican priest. He was one of the people to speak out against the indian genocide and treatment of Native Americans. He felt that it was unfair, and inhumane, so he fought to change that. He was also a new world settler. Simon Bolivar was also a political leader who helped gain Latin America its independance from Spain. -

Hernan Cortes
A spanish conqueror was overthrown in mutiny and landed on what is known as the yucatan, Upon landing, he was challenged by the natives that were there, but they stood no match to these men of god. Or, so they thought because of the horses, and metal plated armor. -

La Noche Triste
This was the night where the spanish conquest almost knocked hernan cortes out of power and leader of the Aztec Empire. Cortes barely escaped without being seen. Cortes knew that he could not return or he would be executed, so playing it cool, he laid under the radar for a few months, not returning. Cortes left the city-state called Tenochtitlan. -
Toussaint Louverture
Toussaint was a truly inspiring person. He was born in Haiti and led to the abolotion of slavery. He led enslaved blacks toward independance. He also put a few bad people out of power, like French comissioner Léger-Félicité Sonthonax. -
Tikal
Tikal was a vast, pyramid like structure built in guatamala by the mayan civilization. The pyramid is an astrounding 230 feet tall. That is like a 23 story building. This was the tallest built by the mayans in the 8th century. It is the tallest pre-columbian structure found today.
