*Stepanie Edgely - An ambitious, snappy 12-year-old *Mr. and Mrs. Edgely - Normal parents, except for the fact that Mr. Edgely, Gordon's brother, is very forgetful. *Fergus' family - Gordon's other brother is named Fergus. Fergus is nasty and cruel, just like his wife, Beryl, and his kids. *Skulduggery Pleasant - A strange, mysterious man who always wears a wig, hat, and sunglasses. rising action 1: Oh, no! - CONFLICT
Stepanie meets Skulduggery Pleasant, who saves her from someone evil. That's the day she finds out that Skulduggery is a SKELETON!!! Not only that, but he's a sorcerer. Skul can do MAGIC? So, what's the probem? Our bad guy is named Nefarian Serpine, Skulduggery's archenemy, and he wants a deadly weapon called the Scepter of the Ancients. What will he do with it?...Steopanie joins Skulduggery to find out! -
rising action 2: Welcome to this life!
Stephanie angd Skulduggery go to meet China Sorrows, another sorcerer. On the way, Skulduggery tells Stephanie a little about magic. If Stepanie wants to be part of this life, she will need new clothes and take a name to protect her. The duo meets with China and tell her about Serpine & his plan. -
rising action 3: The Elders, et cetera...
The duo meet with Skul's old friend, Ghastly Bespoke. Ghastly plans to make new clothes for Stephanie. Later, the two meet the Elder Mages, Eachan Meritorious, Morwenna Crow, and Sagacious Tome. The Elders do not believe Skulduggery. -
rising action 4: Crime! Finally!
Stephanie recieves great clothes from Ghastly. They are jet-black and bulletproof! Stephanie and Skul break into a mueseum to get info about the Scepter. As Stephanie would say, "Crime! Finally!" Only problem? The guards are vampires! -
THE SCEPTER!!! -CLIMAX
....THE SCEPTER!!!!!
Only problem? Serpine has it. In the middle of an intense battle, Valkrie notices that the Scepter does not alert Serpine that Valkrie is near the Scepter, unlike Skuldugggery... Serpine runs away, Scepter in hand. What now? -
rising action 6: Betrayal, names, and resue, oh my! (oh, and Tanith!)
When Stephanie runs to China, China decides not to do anything. China starts using Stephanie's name to overpower her, so Stephanie chooses a new name: Valkyrie Cain. Tanith Low is a warrior-sorcerer, a young woman who quickly befriends Valkrie. Tanith, Valkrie and Ghastly go to rescue Skulduggery from Serpine's torturing grasp. After battling serpine's men and losing two backup solldiers, the team rescues Skul. -
rising action 5: The hiding place
The two figure out where the Scepter is : in the tunnels beneath Gordon's mansion. They go to investigate the entrance, but they need a key....what could it be? Suddenly, Serpine apppears and captures Skulduggery!!!!!
Stephanie goes to China. -
rising action 7: We've got it!...and it's gone: into the tunnels
Skulduggery & the team realize that a brooch that Beryl owns is the KEY to the tunnels! Stephanie grabs it from Beryl's house and the show it to Mr. Bliss, a huge man who knows about Serpine's plan. And, what do you know, Bliss steals it. Later, the duo goes to Gordon's house, Serpine has already gone into the tunnel, so they follow his tracks. Running into many monsters, the finally find... -
falling action 1: I'm a WHAT? - into the warehouse
Skulduggery and Valkyrie find out that she may be an ancient, one of the early gods that commanded the Scepter. She also may be able to do magic! The team travels to a nearby warehouse and finds where Serpine has been doing an experiment. He filled himself with darkness to become virtually invincable. The team suddenly finds themselves face-to-face withan evil soldier that wants to kill Valkyrie! They escape, but so does the soldier, and Ghastly is turned into a statue! -
falling action 2: Deception and realization
The trio (no Ghastly...) finds out that Sagacious Tome betrayed the rest of the Elders. He killed them so that Serpine could have the book of names, a large book that shows all 3 of everyone's names. Serpine just wanted the Scepter to kill the Elders. he really wanted the Book. -
falling action 3: The stab
When back at the warehouse, Tanith has a gigantic fight with the evil soldier. After an intense battle, the soldier stabs Tanith right through her back. Then he leaves. -
falling action 4 : Meanwhile, we fight too...
While Tanith is fighting the evil soldier, Skulduggery and Valkyrie go to find Serpine. He is waiting for them, and killed Sagacious Tome!!!!! Serpine sends Skulduggery into the ceiling, then breaks Valkyrie's leg. Will he win this battle? No! Skulduggery and Valkyrie destroy the Book, then defeat Serpine because his precious Scepter and soldier...turned against him? They arrest Serpine and go to find Tanith -
resolution 1: A gigantic hole in my back
China comes to take the team home. They are all tired, and Tanith and Stephanie are both in a lot of pain. As they discuss Serpine, nobody gets in the car. "You know," says Tanith, "I still have a gigantic hole in my back." The team heads for home. -
resolution 2: Magic
Stephanie and Tanith are slowly recovering.... One warm day in summer, a skeleton named Skulduggery Pleasant sat on a girl's windowsill in her room. The girl's leg is in a cast. Grinning, the girl says something to the skeleton. She clicks her fingers, and a green flame erupts from her fingertips. Magic. Who is this mysterious girl? Well,her real name is a secret... She goes by the name Valkyrie Cain.
