    The First Intifada began in December 1987. It was a protest movement by Palestinians against Israeli rule and an effort to establish a Palestinian homeland. There was a series of demonstrations, improvised attacks, and riots. The Oslo Accords and the creation of the Palestinian Authority (PA) ended the First Intifada in September 1993.

    Oslo Accords
    The Oslo Accords were signed by Israel's Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin and the PLO chairman Yasser Arafat. This agreement called for a five-year transition period where the Gaza Strip and the West Bank would be jointly controlled by Israel and the PA. However, the power was eventually meant to be turned over to the Palestinian people.
  • Second Intifada

    The Second Intifada began at the al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem. On Sept. 28, 2000 a Likud Party delegation and 1,500 police and security forces entered and moved through the Temple Mount. Riots and demonstrations began to errupt and Israeli troops launched attacks in Gaza starting on September 30th. On this day, a 12 yr old boy was shot while hiding behind his father, who was attacked by Israeli forces. This now increased the Palestinian involvement with the Israeli Arabs.

    The Arabic League Summit was held in Riyadh which reaffirmed the Arab Peace Initiative which was first adopted in 2002. The previous initiatives where to destroy Israel and this agreement was interpretted the Palestinians as their right to return.
