Russia Industrialization
During the early 1900's Russia started to industrialize. They started making factories and tried to become the number one producer of steel. The only countries that stood in there way was U.S., Great Britian, and Germany. Russia raised taxes and with the help of foreign investors they started the world longest continuous rail line. This caused harsh working conditions. With this workers started to become unhappy and strikes started. -
Bloody Sunday: The Revolution of 1905
200,000 workers were petioning for better working conditions, more personal freedom and an elected national legislature. They went to Czar's Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. Apon entering the the Palace they were fired apon . 1,000 were injured and several hundred were dead. -
Nicholas Czar II
Nicholas Czar decides to bring Russia into WWI. This was a bad decision because Russia was unpreared to handle the militrary and economic costs. Russias army was weak due to its poorly trained equiped army. This was no match to German machineguns. -
The Czar Steps Down
Protesters forced Czar to step down from power with many protests. A year later revolutionaries exicuted Nicholas Czar and his family. -
Lenin In Power
By November 1st Lenin and the Bolsheviks came to power. A group of armed factory workers took over the Winter Palace in Petrograd. They called themselves the Red Army. A few days later Lenin came to power and he distribted all farm land between pesants. -
Bolsheviks vs. White Army
During this time Russia sighned the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. This treaty gave a large part of Russias territory to Germany and its allies. This was humiliating to many Russian citizens. They formed the White Army to fight for there land back. They attacked the Bolsheviks Red Army. In the end the Red Army eneded up over power them. -
Development of Revolutionary Groups
From 1918 through 1920 Leon Trotsky commanded Revolutionary Groups. He commanded the Red Army . The Red Army attacked Russia. They were trying to secure some land for the Bolsheviks. They were succesful in there campaine to do this against the White army. Even though the U.S. was helping the White Army out by sending them supplies. -
The March Revolution
The March Revolution was a known as the New Economic Policy. This new policy was a form of small scale capitalism. This policy allowed pesants to sell their surpluse crops instead of having to give them to government, -
Stalin becomes a Dictator
In 1922 Lenin suffered a stroke. This caused people fight for power after Lenin dies. The two men fighting for power were Leon Trotsky and Joseph Stalin. Stalin was able to come to power by puting his supporters into power. This helped him to come into absolute power.
