James Meredith vs. Mississippi
The issue of James Meredith enrolling at Ole Miss against the wishes of just about everybody in Mississippi. Despite court order, the Governor of Mississippi would not allow Meredith to apply. Only with the support of the federal government was he able to apply. This event was important because it showed that the federal government supported civil rights. -
The March on Washington
The March on Washington was a rally of over 200,000 civil rights activists calling for civil and ecominic rights for African-Americans. This event was led by and is where Martain Luther King Jr. gave his legendary "I have a dream" speech. This event became important in the scope of the movement because of how public the event was. -
