    The delegates vote

    Delegates discuss complaints against Brit. Then voted. In statement of Grievances, delegates call repeal of 13 Acts of Parliament. they thought the laws violated "Laws of nature, rules of Eng. constitution, and charters." of the colonies delegates voted to boycott Brit. trade. Colonies would not give or take Brit. goods. Congress delegates choose to endorse Suffolk resolves, made by people of Bost. and other Suffolk towns in Mass. Resolutions declared Coercive Acts illegal.
  • A meeting in Philadelphia

    Sep.1774. 55 delegates gather in Philadelphia. They came to set political body to represent America and fight British. called the body Continental Congress. Leaders from 12 of 13 colonies came to meeting. Georgia did not send person. Massachusetts sent Sam Adams and lawyer cousin, John Adams. New York sent lawyer, John Jay. Virginia sent George Washington and Richard Henry Lee. Patrick wanted colonies to join to resist Britain. He summed meaning of meeting when addressed delegates on second day
