Quartering Act
Colonists were to shelter British troops in their homes. The troops could stop the colonists from having secret meetings, This act kept the colonists surpressed, and showed that Britain was still in control. -
Boston Massacre
This was a misunderstanding between a british soldier and the colonists who formed an angry mob. A shot was fired and then more shots were fired. Five people died and the colonists realized that the British government was prepared to use military force to keep the colonists obedient. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act of 1773 reasserted parliments right to tax the colonists. The significance of this is that parliment wanted to tax the colonists even though the Townshend Act had been repealed. This led to the boston Tea Party. -
Boston Tea Party
Colonists dressed up like Indians and dumped forty five tons of tea into the British Harbor. This is considered to be the first step in the American Revolution. It is the first time that the Colnists fought back. -
The Intolerable Acts
Five Coercive Acts against the colonists in retribution for the Boston Tea Party which effectively shut down Boston Harbor. These combined Acts made it so that the colonists could not receive the products that they usually traded.
