Cicones
Odysseus and his crew land near Ismarus, the city of Cicones. The Cicones are allie of thr trojans and therefore enemies of Odysseus. Odysseus and his crew then raid the Cicones, robbing and killing them, until the Ciconian army kills 72 of Odysseus' men and drives the rest out to sea. -
The Lotus Eaters
The Lotus eaters were a race of people were dominated by "lotus" plants. The lotus fruits and flowers were the primary food of the island and were narcotic and addictive, causing the people to sleep in peaceful apathy. Odysseus' demanded his crew to stay away from the lotus plant, but 3 of the men ate it. Odysseus' then tied his men to the boat and took them away. -
Cyclops
Odysseus and his men then landed on a deserted island infested with nasty-looking one-eyed creatues known as cyclopes. Odysseus and his men were trapped in Polyphemus' cave and he started eating them! They then got him drunk, made him fall asleep and when we was sweetly snoozing, they drove a BIG stick into his eye and blinded him. The next morning, Odysseus and his men escape the cave by hiding under Polyphemus' sheep when he let them go outside. -
Aeolus/ Ithaca
Aeolus, the wind king, greeted Odysseus and his crew warmly. He then gives Odysseus two parting gifts: good wind and bad wind. The set off, and were close enough to see Ithaca (home) when his crew opened the bad wind and they blew back all the way to Circe's island. -
Last Laestrygones
The ship stop breifly in the land of the Laestrygones -- cannibals who bombarded the fleet of ships with boulders. Only Odysseus, his ship, and his crew of 45 men survive. -
Circe
Odysseus' men go explore Circe's hall and are turned to swine. Eurylochus survives and tells Odysseus of what has happened -
The Land of the Dead
Odysseus descends into the underworld because Circe told him to and sees one of his men and his mother -
Sirens, Scylla and Charybdis
Odysseus and his men encounter the monsters. The sirens sing a beautiful song, Scylla has six dog heads around her neck, and Charybdis is a whirlpool -
Odysseus lands in Ithaca
Odysseus finally returns to Ithaca and Athena disguises him as an old man so that he can surprise the suitors -
Odysseus goes back to his his house as a beggar
Telemachus has found his father and returns to their house. Odysseus soon follows with the swineherd. -
The Test of the Bow
Penelope has given up hope of Odysseus' return and holds an archery contest with marriage to herself being the prize -
Odysseus kills the Suitors
Telemachus and Odysseus dominate all the suitors with the help of Athena -
Odysseus and Penelope are reunited
Odysseus and Penelope are finally reunited and tell each other of their experiences while Odysseus was gone. Odysseus then visits his father, Laertes. Later, the townspeople, angered by the deaths of the suitors unite to fight Odysseus. Athena intervenes and makes peace
