Magna Carta
A group of people forced King John to sign The Magna Carta also known as the Great Charter. It protected against arbitrary (the taking of life, liberty, or property). -
Boston Massacre
To control the colonies, London passed laws and policies that angered the colonist. This caused the colonists to become violent and to protest. They boycotted English goods and the British troops became angry one day and shot into an crowd of colonists killing 5 men. -
Boston Tea Party
When the tea act was passed people disagreed and protested. Some men protested the British control of the tea trade by disguising as Native Americans and pouring all of the tea from the ships into the sea. -
First Continental Congress
Parliament passed a set of laws to punish the colonists for the troubles of Boston. These laws were called the Interable Acts. Delegates including Samuel Adams and John Adams were there. -
Second Continental Congress
It was the first government of the United States which lasted 5 years. It was a unicameral congress using both legislative and executive powers. Hancock was the chosen president of Congress and George Washington commander in chief. -
Declaration of Independence
Written by Thomas Jefferson and 4 other men. It's composed of four parts: a Preamble, a Declaration of Natural Rights, a List of Grievances, and a Resolution of Independence.
