Magna Carta
Document created that required the King to proclaim certain rights to freemen, respect legal procedures, and know that that his will was bound by law. -
Boston Massacre
Event in which five civilians were killed by british troops the legal proceedings afterwards helped spur the rebellion. -
Boston Tea Party
Event in which American colonists boarded British ships and threw their loads of tea into the Boston Harbor. -
First Continental Congress
When the delgates from the thirteen colonies came together to form the first government of the United States. -
Declaration of Independence
When the founder fathers signed this document, it declared that the Colonies were free from British rule. -
Articles of Confederation
Officially the first constituiton of the United States of America. -
Shay's Rebellion
A rebellion in Massachusetts led by Daniel Shays after the end of the Revolution. Shays' rebels were angry over crushing taxes and debt. This caused George Wahington to advocate a stronger national government. -
Philadelphia Convention
A convention held after the war by the founding fathers in which they discussed the Articles of Confederation. Instead of fixing the articles, they instead made a whole new government.
