French and Indian WarThe French and Indian war was a war fought between the British and the French which involved the Indians. It was fought in the land of the Ohio River Valley. Another reason was competition for trading alliances with the natives. -
The Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of ParisThe Treaty of Paris ends the French and Indian war. New France east of the Mississippi river to Britain, New Orleans is given to Spain along with New France West of the Mississippi River, and the British returned Cuba which they had captured during the war, to Spain in exchange for Florida. -
Proclamation Line
The proclamation LineAfter the War the colonist began to move further west because the French no longer occupy that territory, the fighting of the Natives increase, and King George creates a line after the end of the applachian mountains and the colonist were not allowed to settle west of the line. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar ActThe sugar act lowered taxes from molasses act of 1733. The goal was to decrease colonial smuggling in the west Indies. The taxes were indirect taxes which means it was added to the cost of sugar. This gave British soldiers writs of assistance which allowed them to board and search any ships leaving and entering American harbors. -
Quartering Act
Quartering ActThe quartering act required that all Americans must house and feed British soldiers in the colonies. This cost Americans a lot of money because they had to pay for thier food, keep them warm, and make sure they had a place to sleep. If they refused to take a British soldier into thier house they were fined or put in jail because they were breaking the law. -
Stamp Act
stamp actThe stamp act was a tax which was on all printied goods in the colonies. This included newspapers, magazines, and ect. This was different from the Sugar act because this tax was a direct tax which means it wasn't included in the price. -
Townshend Act
townshend actThis act imports duties placed on paper, glass, paint, and tea. After several boycotts from colonist the British replaced this act in just four years. This act replaced the stamp act and they kapt the tea tax to show that parliment still had authority over American colonies. -
1st Continental Congress
first continental congressThey met in response to intolerable acts, some people favored boycotts, and it is illegal to buy or drink British tea and no British imports. Committees of correspondence to enforce. -
Boston Port Act
boston port actPeople were upset becayse they were loosing thier jobs and fishermen couldn't go lobstering because they were not allowed in the harbor. The king closed the Boston Harbor because the Americans dumped thier tea. The King would open it when they payed back the money that was lost. They got that money from increase of taxes which people did not like. -
Justice Act
justice actAny British official guilty of murder, treason, kidnapping, ect. were tried in England. People of Boston thought the British jury was rigged and didn't think it was fair. They both disagree with each other because the Americans don't think they should be tried in Britian and The British don't think they should be tried in America. They never make a comprimise.
