    Growing Up

Though screenings, or even testing are not required, forming healthy habits and doing basic check-ups on yourself is encouraged. This includes looking at your skin, noticing any lumps, or any other areas of problem.
  • Testicular Cancer Screening (Monthly)

Despite being a young man who appears to be healthy, it is recommended that young men begin to do self examinations for testicular cancer monthly, or have a physical done annually starting at the age of 15 to the age of 55. This exam is generally performed by doing a basic feel of the area, searching for any lumps, and will move on to professional examination if required.
  • Skin Cancer Screening (Every 3 years)

Though the median age for the diagnosis of melanoma is 63, it is recommended that men begin getting skin cancer screenings and biopsies starting at the age of 35. This is done by taking a sample of skin cells, and those cells are examined for any cancerous behaviors.
  • Skin Cancer Screening (Yearly)

As you get older, your chances of developing skin cancer increase drastically, so it is recommended that anyone 40 or older get tested for skin cancer yearly, rather than every 3 years.
  • Prostate Cancer Screening (Yearly)

Prostate cancer should begin being looked at by men who are 45 or older. This screening is typically done by a prostate examination, in which the doctor will manually feel the prostate and the surrounding area through the anus. This procedure should be done annually.
  • Annual Cancer Screening

Starting at age 45, your chances of developing any form of cancer are dramatically increased, meaning you should be more aware of your body and any abnormalities. This screening will cover most forms of cancer, however a specific screening may have to be done at a separate time, such as a skin biopsy.
  • Colon Cancer Screening (Yearly)

Beginning at the age of 50, men should begin to be screened for colon cancer. This screening typically is done in the form of a colonoscopy, which is a procedure in which a doctor will insert a camera into the colon and actively search for any polyps that have formed. This should be done annually.
  • Lung Cancer Screening (Dependent)

This screening is used to detect any cancer in the lungs, in which a CT scan is used to exam the chest cavity and lungs for any cancer. This test should be done annually, however it may not have to be done as frequently if there is no history of smoking in your lifetime.
