Albany Plan of Union
The plan, drafted by Benjamin Franklin, called the colonies to unite under British rule and to cooperate with one another in war. This created an American continental assembly with delegates from each colony. -
Pontiac's Rebellion
During the spring of 1763, members of the Delaware, Shawnee, and Seneca groups surprised and captured most of the British forts in the Ohio River Valley and the Great Lakes. In the summer and fall, they raided communities in western Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. -
Treaty of Paris 1763
The British had successfully driven the French out of North America. The Mississippi River had now become the boundary between British and Spanish claims in North America. -
Sugar Act
This was the first tax on the American colonies imposed by British Parliament. The purpose was compensate for the money spent on the war with the French. The colonists protested and confiscated cargo if the duties went unpaid. -
Stamp Act
This act required colonists to pay a tax on almost all of their printed materials. Britain was hoping to raise revenue and the colonists weren't happy. They refused to use the stamps, harassed the distributors, and rioted. -
Quartering Act
This act required the colonists to house British soldiers in barracks provided by each colony. The purpose was to give food, lodging, and transportation for the British forces. Once again, the colonists refused and resorted to physical violence.
