French and Indian War
In 1700s, the British and French fought a war for the control of North America. The British won the “ French and Indian War”, but at a high cost. To repay the debt, the British government placed taxes on the colonists, including the Stamp Act, the Tea Act and the Townsend Act. -

Causes of Revolution
The colonists came up with a slogan “ No Taxation Without Representation” to show displeasure to the ‘Acts’. In 1773, the colonists started protesting, they boycotted British Goods, some dressed as Indians and dumped tea off of a British ship. By 1775, the British soldiers and the colonists exchanged shots at Lexington, Concord, the first battle of American Revolution. -

The Americans won the Revolution
The first battle win in Lexington and Concord, the colonists lost many battles. A surprise victory at Saratoga, brought the French into the war. Finally at Yorktown, the British were forced by the Continental Army to surrender and the war was over. The Americans became the “United States of America”. -
Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress selected “ George Washington” as the Commander in Chief of the new Continental Army. It was Washington’s skill and leadership that lead colonists to the independence. -
The Declaration of Independence
The final draft was approved. The grievances with King George II and England’s were listed. It is important as the U.S got freedom and became independent. -
Signing of the Declaration
At Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 56 men met to sign the Declaration of Independence. The men acted courageously, as the act of signing the Declaration was treason and was punishable by hanging. -
Battle of Saratoga
The Battles of Saratoga marked the climax of the Saratoga campaign, giving a decisive victory to the Americans over the British in the American Revolutionary War. -
British surrender at Yorktown
When the British General Charles Cornwallis surrendered his troops in Yorktown, Virginia. General Cornwallis brought 8,000 British troops to Yorktown. They expected help from British ships sent from New York. The British ships never arrived. -

Bills of Rights
The constitution was first created in 1787, not everyone thought it did enough to protect the individual rights. To make sure of everyone’s support, the Continental Congress met in 1789, they added ten amendments to aid for protecting the individual liberties and freedom. These 1st Ten amendments are known as the Bill of Rights.
