: Elizabeth Cady Stanton declares herself a candidate for Congress in New York. She only recieves 24 of 22,026 votes cast in the election. -

Senator S.C. Pomeroy brings the federal women's suffrage amendment to Congress for the first time -
The Anti-Suffrage party is founded
The wives of prominent men, including Civil War veterans, came together to found the Anti-Suffrage party. -
The First vote is cast
The first vote on Womens Suffrage is taken in the Senate on January 25, 1887. It is defeated 34 to 16, with 25 members not there. -
The Merger
The American Woman Suffrage Association and the National Woman Suffrage Association merge. This new organazation was known as The National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA). -
