  • The Origin of Terrorism

    The origin of modern day terrorism began in 1793 with Maxmilien Robespierre. Following the French Revolution, Robespierre was one of twelve heads of the new state. He had all enemies of the revolution killed to establish a dictatorship and stabilize the country. He instilled fear in everyone.

  • The Rise of Terrorism

    1950 began the rise of Non-State Terrorism around the world. Terrorist groups had formed from all over such as the Irish Republican Army. They had formed with a common goal of independence from the Great Britian Republic.

  • Hijacking of El Al Flight

    In 1968, an El Al Israel Airlines flight departed from Rome heading for Tel Aviv, Israel. It was hijacked by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The plane was carrying 32 passengers and 10 crew members. They diverted the plane releasing most of the passengers. A few of the passengers wer held hostage for 5 weeks until a negotiantion was reached. The PFLP wanted attention so they could exchange the Palestinian militants held prisoner in Israeli prisons for the Israeli men they held

  • 1972 Summer Olympics

    A Palestinian group known as Black September kidnapped and killed Israeli athletes who were planning on competeing in the Munich Olympics. Black September wanted the release of the Palestinian prisoners. They used these drastic tactics to bring attention to their cause.

  • Religious Terrorism

    In the 1990s, religiously motivated terrorist groups began to rise. Al Qaeda was one of the groups that justifies their violence on Islamic grounds. Christianity, Judism, Hinduism and several other religions gave rise to their own forms of extremism.

  • World Trade Center Attack

    On September 11, 2001 Al-Qaeda coordinated severyal suicide attacks on the United States. 19 terrorists hijacked 4 jet airlines intentionally flying two of them into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. The third plane flew into the Pentagon while the forth into a field after passgengers attempted to take control. Al-Qaeda, headed by Osama Bin Laden, wanted the US out of Saudi Arabia and this was thei method to get attention.
