Democritus
During the Greek era, the philosipher Democritus stated that matter is made of indivisible particles called atoms. -
John Dalton
This English scientist propsed the first atomic theory with spherical solid masses in motion. (Chocolate Chip Cookie.) -
J.J Thomson
J.J Thomson worked with the cathode ray and tubes, which eventually lead to his discovery of electrons. He describes the atom as a ball of positive charge containing a number of electrons. -
Ernest Rutherford
A New Zealand scientist, Ernest Rutherford is credited with his discovery of protons using his famous "gold foil" experiment.
He also stated that electrons were outside the the nucleus of an atom. -
Neils Bohr
His atomic model, called the "Bohr Model" is a model of how the atomic structure is. He describes the atomis structure as successive orbital shells of electrons.
His model is also known as the "Planetary Model" because it looks like our solar system. -
Erwin Schrodinger
Identified the electrons cloud model, and discovered "wave mechanics" . -
James Chadwick
An English scientist, James Chadwick is credited with discovering the NEUTRON. He said that the nuclues of an atom has the same mass of a proton, so he discovered the nuetron then. -
John Cockcroft
Received the Nobel Prize for splitting the atom nucleus which was used for the development of nuclear power. -
Enrico Fermi
Demonstrated existence of radioactive elements, and neutron irradation. -
J. Oppenheimer
Credited with creating the atomic bomb, used to end World War 2
and this info was later used for space travel.
