    Initially the press reported a victory against the Cheyenne who put up a brave defens. Later an eyewitness testimony conflicted these reports leading to a military and two Cogressional investigations into the event.
  • Fetterman Massacre

    Fetterman Massacre
    The Fetterman Massacre was one of the bloodiest events in the series of attacks staged by the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors against the army. Army troops were staged on the Bozeman Trail in Montana when the Sioux military leader Crazy Horse lure them into a deadly trap. Hundres of warriors were waiting for the army to come to the trap and wiped them out.

    The drive for expansion violently clashed with the Native Americans in the 19th century. The Native Americans were trying to preserve their sovereignty, lands, and ways of life.

    The Black Hills of the Dakotas were rumored to be filled with gold. In 1874 an expedition led by Custer was on there way to see if the rumors were real. When they got there indeed they found alot of gold in the hills. Then everybody swarmed to try and get the gold.

    After scouting the Native Amwerican encampment Lieutenant George Custer divided up his troops and attacked the Native Americans. He had underestimated the strength f the Native Americans. They had lost their lives and were defeated by the Ntive Americans and everyone was in shock.

    The ghost dance was a way the Sioux used to express their culture that was being destroyed.
  • Wounded Knee

    This is where the Sioux gathered after Sitting Bull had died. The army went to collect the Sioux weapons and when the pistol shot rang 200 Sioux died and 25 soldiers also.
