    The Koryo Dynasty falls, and the Josun dynasty is established. The kind of pottery that thrived at the time was called the "Baek Ja", or white pot. However, the forms of pottery were different depending on the period of time. For instance, in the Koryo Dynasty, the "Chung Ja", or blue pot was the main pottery that existed.

    The Korean writing system known as Hangul, was created on October 9, 1443, by King Sejong. Sejong also helped develope the scientific knowledge of Josun by hiring many skilled scientists and workers. Since the people that lived in the korean peninsula shared the Chinese written language, this was one of the most significant events in Korean history. Unfortunately, the noble class of this era went against the idea of using Hangul, because they were steeped in the Chinese writing form.

    Christopher Columbus lands on San Salvador, as a result of an attempt to find an alternative route to India, by going west instead of south. After the Vikings, he became the first to land on the New World. However, Columbus thought that he had found India even until he laid on his deathbed.

    Pedro Alvares Cabral reaches Brazil shore in 1500 and became the first European to see Brazil. He accidentally found the land by venturing off course on the way to the Indian ports. On April 22nd, he and his men saw land. The land was the top of a hill. They sailed towards the land and reached to Brazil.

    Japanese soldiers land on Korea and captured Busan and Tadaejin in a surprise attack. Josun strikes back and tried to hold them back. This is called the Imjin war, and it is one of the most important battles in Korean history.

    The Japanese attacked Josun but was unsuccessful. They face a bitter loss. Admiral Soon Shin Yi drives the Japanese forces out of the Josun territory and was victorious. However, during the last part of the battle, he was hit by a bullet from the enemy and died.His invention, the kobukson, or the turtle ship that he designed was the key to victory in this war.

    In 1607, British settlers reached the coast of Virginia. The colonists, claiming the land, named the settlement Jamestown in honor of their king. Unfortunately, more than half the settlers died of hunger, disease, or battles with the Native Amerivcan during the first few years. However, they gained a foothold in their new land. The colony started to thrive after the discovery of tobacco, which was a very profitable crop. Jamestown became England's first permanent settlement in North America.

    Samuel de Champlain sailed up the St.Lawrence with about 32 colonists, and found Quebec.They landed in Quebec to establish it as a fur-trading center. Only nine colonists survived the first harsh winter in Quebec, however, more settlers arrived the following summer.

    France-Marquette and Joliet
    French Jesuit priest Jacques Marquette and trader Louis Joliet explored the Great lakes and the upper part of the MIssissippi River. They traveled in two canoes paddled by five voyagers, Marquette and Joliet crossed Wisconsin in the summer of 1673 and followed the Mississippi hundreds of miles south to Arkansas.They confirmed that it was possible to travel easily from the Great Lakes all the way to the Gulf of Mexico by water.

    10 years after Marquette and Joliet had explored the upper MIssissippi, Sieur de La Salle explored the lower part of the Mississippi. He claimed the entire river valley for France. Furthermore, he named the river valley Louisiana in honor of the French King, Louis XIV.
