The Koryo Dynasty falls, and the Josun dynasty is established. The kind of pottery that thrived at the time was called the "Baek Ja", or white pot. However, the forms of pottery were different depending on the period of time. For instance, in the Koryo Dynasty, the "Chung Ja", or blue pot was the main pottery that existed. -

Prince Henry, the son of Portugal's King, began his dreams of exploration overseas in 1415 when he helped conquer the Muslim city of Ceuta in North Africa. -

Korea-Creation of Hangul
The Korean writing system known as Hangul, was created on October 9, 1443, by King Sejong. Sejong also helped develope the scientific knowledge of Josun by hiring many skilled scientists and workers. Since the people that lived in the korean peninsula shared the Chinese written language, this was one of the most significant events in Korean history. Unfortunately, the noble class of this era went against the idea of using Hangul, because they were steeped in the Chinese writing form. -

Korea-Spread of Hangul
It was not until 1446 that Hangul was widespread among the peoples of the Josun Dynasty. It was partly because the noble class disagreed with the idea of using Hangul, but it was also that it was hard to spread the written language all over the country. -

By the time Henry died in 1460, the Portugese had established a series of trading posts along western Africa's shores. There, they traded with Africans for such profitable itmes as gold and ivory. Eventually, they traded for African captives to be used as slaves. -

Bartolomeu Dias ventured far down coast of Africa to reach Asia. He was unsuccessful in doing so. because of shortage of food supplies and the exhaustion of the crew. However, he discovered the Cape of Good Hope during his return journey, on May 1488. -

Christopher Columbus lands on San Salvador, as a result of an attempt to find an alternative route to India, by going west instead of south. After the Vikings, he became the first to land on the New World. However, Columbus thought that he had found India even until he laid on his deathbed. -

John Cabot, or Giovanni Caboto, discovered Newfoudland and New Scotia. However, very little is known about this voyage. -

Portugal-da Gama
Vasco da Gama began exploring African coasts giving Portugal the direct sea route to India from Europe. In those times, the Indian Ocean was thought to be impossible to reach, and not connected to any other seas. da Gama proved wrong of this idea. -

Pedro Alvares Cabral reaches Brazil shore in 1500 and became the first European to see Brazil. He accidentally found the land by venturing off course on the way to the Indian ports. On April 22nd, he and his men saw land. The land was the top of a hill. They sailed towards the land and reached to Brazil. -

Amerigo Vespucci traveled along the East Coast of South America, and claimed that the New World was not Asia. Instead, he proposed that it was an unknown fourth continent. The Americas are named after him, because he distinguished it from Asia. -

Magellan goes to the Phillipines on the way of going around the world. He tries to make the inhabitants convert. However, it does not go as well as he planned and results in his death. -

Magellan became the first to circumnavigate. However, it was not he that made it, but his 35 crew that were left after the 3 long years of traveling around the world. But he was given credit for the first person to ever circumnavigate, or travel around the world.This trip helped make Spain the richest and strongest country in all of Europe, because of all the resources and goods that the ship brought were of very high value. -

Giovanni de Verrazzano, an Italian explorer that worked under the French government. He set sail to find a sea rout to the Pacific Ocean from North America. However, instead of finding the route, he found New York Harbor. -

The people ofthe Netherlands region declared independence from Spain and established the Dutch Republic. -
Korea-Breakout of war
Japanese soldiers land on Korea and captured Busan and Tadaejin in a surprise attack. Josun strikes back and tried to hold them back. This is called the Imjin war, and it is one of the most important battles in Korean history. -
Korea-War ended
The Japanese attacked Josun but was unsuccessful. They face a bitter loss. Admiral Soon Shin Yi drives the Japanese forces out of the Josun territory and was victorious. However, during the last part of the battle, he was hit by a bullet from the enemy and died.His invention, the kobukson, or the turtle ship that he designed was the key to victory in this war. -
England-Jamestown
In 1607, British settlers reached the coast of Virginia. The colonists, claiming the land, named the settlement Jamestown in honor of their king. Unfortunately, more than half the settlers died of hunger, disease, or battles with the Native Amerivcan during the first few years. However, they gained a foothold in their new land. The colony started to thrive after the discovery of tobacco, which was a very profitable crop. Jamestown became England's first permanent settlement in North America. -
France-Champlain
Samuel de Champlain sailed up the St.Lawrence with about 32 colonists, and found Quebec.They landed in Quebec to establish it as a fur-trading center. Only nine colonists survived the first harsh winter in Quebec, however, more settlers arrived the following summer. -

Henry Hudson sailed west and found three water ways. He discovered the Hudson River, Hudson Bay, and Hudson Strait. -

A group called the pilgrims founded a second English colony, Plymouth in Massachusetts. They were persecuted for their religious beliefs in England, and came here seeking religious freedom. -
England-Puritans
A group that was called the pilgrims were also people that were seeking religious freedom from England's Anglican church. They established a larger colony at nearby Massachusetts Bay. -
Dutch
The Dutch captured Aruba,Antilles from Spain that previously had control of. -
France-Marquette and Joliet
French Jesuit priest Jacques Marquette and trader Louis Joliet explored the Great lakes and the upper part of the MIssissippi River. They traveled in two canoes paddled by five voyagers, Marquette and Joliet crossed Wisconsin in the summer of 1673 and followed the Mississippi hundreds of miles south to Arkansas.They confirmed that it was possible to travel easily from the Great Lakes all the way to the Gulf of Mexico by water. -
France-La Salle
10 years after Marquette and Joliet had explored the upper MIssissippi, Sieur de La Salle explored the lower part of the Mississippi. He claimed the entire river valley for France. Furthermore, he named the river valley Louisiana in honor of the French King, Louis XIV. -
Dutch
By this time, Dutch ruled much of Indonesia with trading posts in Asia and Capetown. -
Korea-Catholicism
The first Catholic Church is founded in a Korean priest's house. However, the government had banned ideas or religions from the west, so they had to clandestinely meet. The picture shows the town that had the church founded. -
Korea-Banning of foreign books
The government bans purchasing foreign books. In addition, in 1788, lots of foreign books are burnt.
