Symbolism- the gun

Throughout the story, the gun that was used during the stickups was sort'of refered to as Marcus and Eddie's guilt.

Marcus and Eddie's first robbery - Flashback

Jan 17, 1982

Marcus and Eddie robbed a woman in the parking lot of P.C. Richards. '"It's like if somebody did that to your mother," Eddie said. "How would you feel?"' (pg.9)

Stickup #2

Feb 4, 1982

Marcus and Eddie rob an old white man two weeks later. Eddie unintentionally shot the man. '"It just went off,"I said to him in a low voice.' (Eddie- pg.17)

Marcus remembers who the man was that Eddie shot.

Feb 8, 1982

Marus remembers that the man Eddie shot was a bus driver. '...I knew the man we shot was a driver on the 19-A that ran past my house.' (pg.24)

Marcus gets caught

Feb 27, 1982

Marcus is identified my teh bus driver that got shot and is arrested. He gets indicted and will be sent to an upstate prison in 3 weeks.

Eddie's team loses the game

Mar 5, 1982

Eddie and his basket ball team are out of teh champioships the first game they play.

Bye bye gun along with the evidence-Level 3 Question

Eddie throws the gun off a bridge that he knew no one would come and in doing that he got rid of most of the evidence that could be used against him.

Eddie is arrested- Level 2 Question

Eddie is arrested, but because the detectives investigating his case can't locate the murder weapon, Eddie doesn't go to prison.
