2018 Hi-liner Football Season

  • Turtle Mountain

    Turtle Mountain
Turtle Mountain was our first game of the year, and we were all eager to get our first win in forever after an 0-9 season. Plus we had gotten blown out by this team the year before, we were hungry for revenge. Our team did happen to come out flat unfortunately, and we fell 28-15 to the Braves. We still kept our chins up though as we still had a good season ahead of us.
  • Bismarck St. Mary's

    Bismarck St. Mary's
For our second game of the year, we faced the reigning state champions, Bismarck St. Mary's. The whole team was somewhat nervous as we were going up against the big dogs of AA football. This really affected our mindset as we got toasted 35-8. One positive came out of this game however, and that was the discovery of our great running back, Sam Payne
  • Grafton

    Grafton
After being on an 11 game losing streak, the whole entire team was very eager to go win a game, and Grafton seemed like the perfect team to do it against. We knew that the opponent was undersized and the team had a low number of kids, much like our team last year. We took it to the Spoilers, beating them 32-0 and shutting them out on their home field.
  • Whapeton

    Whapeton
The game of Whapeton was the game we started to learn that we could really compete with any team that we wanted to. Both teams were neck and neck from the start of the game to end and it was exciting game to watch. However, midway through the game it was delayed due to heavy amounts of rain. Even after waiting for over an hour, both teams took the field again to finish the game, and Valley City won on an exciting game winning pass to Avery Bennefield.
  • Devils Lake

    Devils Lake
Coming off of two wins now, the entire team was starting to gain more and more confidence. We knew that we could take the Devils Lake Firebirds. During the game we seemed to be the only team that put together a solid drive, only scoring 6 points. Fortunate for us, it was enough to put away the opposing team as we shut them out and didn't allow a single point. We came away with another win, 6-0.
  • Jamestown

    Jamestown
Jamestown was the second toughest loss of our season. During the first half of the game, we remained even with Jamestown throughout, ending up tied 16-16 at halftime. However, coming out the second half, one of our best players got injured and we were left with a piece missing in our defense. We couldn't seem to get on the scoreboard either, and we lost the game 30-16.
  • Shanley

    Shanley
Shanley was the toughest game of my football career, as well as for some of my teammates. Even after just coming off a loss, we were hungry to knock off the number one ranked team, Shanley. Our whole team played some of the best football we had ever played, and game the most effort we had ever given. It just wasn't enough sadly, as we barely lost to the Deacons 16-12.
  • Watford City

    Watford City
Watford City was the most fun I've ever had in a football game. Our team knew that Watford City was awful coming into the game, and we decided as a team to just go have some fun. We came out with roaring confidence and we kicked the tar out of our opponent scoring 50 points and shutting down yet another team.
  • Central Cass

    Central Cass
Coming into the game, we had a chance to make the playoffs. First off though, we had to beat Central Cass to even have a chance of making it in. However our team made lots of mistakes, and we didn't do enough to get ourselves the win, losing 43-16. This resulted in the end of our season.
  • Awards Ceremony

    Awards Ceremony
Even though we ended on a somewhat sour note, our team had a great football season. We ended the year 4-5, which many would say is bad. However, we felt very accomplished, improving by 4 wins from the season before. Additionally, as a group, we had become much closer and we felt we had established a road of greatness in our futures. Also some of our players won all-team honors, and Riley Gearhardt broke a school record for tackles in a game.
