Tea Act
Most colonist accepted British rule until the enactment of the Tea Act -
Intolerable Acts
The British Parliament enacted the Intolerable Acts in the colonies which was a series of measures imposed by the British in response to their resistance of new taxes. -
1st Continental Congress
56 delegates came together including George Washington and John Adams from all of the colonies except Georgia and drafted a declaration of rights and grievances -

They elected Virginian Peyton Randolph as the first President of Congress. -

The delegates sent a letter to King George explaining the problems the colonies had with how they were being treated and demanded that he stop the Intolerable Acts or they would stop buying British goods. -

For the members who wanted a more peaceful protests, they created a declaration of rights. These rights included were life, liberty, property, and the right to establish their own taxes in the colonies. -
Continental Association
Continental Association was created to boycott British goods, hoping to repeal the Intolerable Acts. -

From 1774-1789 the Continental Congress serves as the government of the colonies and then the United States. -
