    Passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act
    On January 23, 1990, the 101st Congress passed the "Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990", which was then signed by President George Bush. It established comprehensive protection for people with a variety of disabilities in many aspects of public life. Having seen the federal government involve itself in protecting racial minorities, advocates for the disabled began to agitate for protection for their constituency as well.

    Confirmation of Clarence Thomas
    On July 1, 1991, President George H. W. Bush nominated Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court of the United States to replace Thurgood Marshall, who had announced his retirement. Information about Thomas sexually harassing Anita Hill eventually leaked and a deep investigation about him went into full effect. Thomas still won the nomination with a 52/48 vote.

    FACTS: Hurricane Andrew’s winds were 165 miles per hour at its height, The damage from Hurricane Andrew was staggering, with about $25-26.5 billion in damages in Florida alone. The area impacted most was a swatch from Homestead and Florida City north to Kendall. The hurricane damaged or destroyed 9,500 traffic signs and signals, 3,300 miles of powerlines, 3,000 watermains, 59 health facilities, 31 public schools, 32,900 acres of farmland and 82,000 businesses.

    US Soldiers in Somalia / Blackhawk Down
    A US Raid in Somalia drastically changed when two Black Hawk helicopters were shot down. The raid quickly changed to a rescure mission for the soldires who had survived the crash. Surrounded by Somali militia, a fierce firefight ensued that left American troops trapped and fighting for their lives. The ordeal left 18 American men dead, 70 wounded, with 3,000 Somalis casualties.

    Passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement
    The goal of NAFTA was to eliminate barriers to trade and investment between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The implementation of NAFTA brought the immediate elimination of tariffs on more than half of Mexico's exports to the U.S. and more than a third of U.S. exports to Mexico. Within 10 years of the implementation of the agreement, all U.S.-Mexico tariffs would be eliminated except for some U.S. agricultural exports to Mexico that were to be phased out within 15 years.

    Million Man March, a political demonstration in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 16, 1995, was formed to promote African American unity and family values. It was estimated that between 400,000 to 1.1 million marchers, most of whom were African American, participated in the march. The event was organized by Louis Farrakhan, the often controversial leader of the Nation of Islam, and directed by Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr.

    The Centennial Olympic Park bombing was a terrorist bomb attack on the Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia during the 1996 Summer Olympics. A man named Jewell was originally convicted but eventually was cleared of all charges. In 2003. a man named Rudolph was eventually arrested and convicted of the bombings and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

    NATO Bombing in Yugoslavia
    The NATO bombing of Yugoslavia was the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's military operation against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the Kosovo War. The bombing killed between 489 and 528 civilians, and destroyed bridges, industrial plants, public buildings, private businesses, as well as, barracks and military installations. The bombings were the first time NATO used ilitary force without the approval of theUN Security Council.

    The Columbine High School massacre was a school shooting that occurred on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School in Columbine, an unicportorated part of Jefferson County of Colorado. The motives of the shooters, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, remain unclear. 15 people were killed and 24 were injured. The Columbine shooting is described as the worst school massacre in American history.
