1990's Significant Inventions

  • World Wide Web

    The World-Wide Web was created by Tim Berners-Lee. The WWW was originally supposed to be used by scientists around the world to share information, but soon was known by the public. Ever since the creation of the web, it has been used by almost everyone around the world and keeps everyone up to date on new incoming information everyday that's just at the palm of our hand.
  • Text Messages

    The first text messages were sent in 1992. It was the start of a whole new way of communication and abbreviations. The idea of text messages came around the 1980s by Bernard Ghillebaert and Friedhelm Hillebrand, but was executed in 1992. Text messages give easier access to communication and is similar to writing a letter, but electronically that can be read at any time by anyone around the world.
  • DVDs

    The DVD was invented and developed by Sony, Philips, Toshiba, and James Russell. The companies and Russell worked with previous audio files and developed the DVD in their own ways. Ever since, we have been able to stream videos through a little disc.
  • Tamagotchi

    Tamagotchi was invented by Aki Maita and Akihiro Yokoi. It was a little virtual pet game that caught the eyes of many. This game brought a lot of excitement for kids and teens in the 1990s.
  • Nintendo 64

    Nintendo 64 was released and founded by Satoru Iwata and Hiroshi Yamauchi. It was a game console that had a small amount of games at first, but new games were continuously being released. It was the source of entertainment for game lovers, but was still competing with other game consoles in the 1990s.
