ST506 is the first Hard Drive Disk
The company that went on to become Seagate came out with the ST506 which could store a WHOPPING 5 MBs of data, which was way more then what floppy disks of the era could hold. -
PC DOS 1.0 is released with IBM's PC
DOS 1.0 was a collaboration between Tim Paterson and Bob O'Rear and was the defacto operating system for most computers until Windows 1.X. -
The release of the Macintosh
Apple releases the Macintosh which was huge for it's focus on mouse support and it's GUI based OS. -
C++ is created
Bjarne Stroustrup releases "The C++ Programming Language" which is an iteration on the C programming language to include class based programming. The language is still used frequently today. -
Intel releases the 80486 chipset
The Intel 486 microprocessor was able to double the performance of the 386 with some smart additions and streamlining of how the processor used clock cycles. The 486 would be an important part of PC through the mid 90s where things like 3D graphics required more power.
