1980 Death of John Lennon
In 1980 Legendary singer song writer and former band member for "The Beatles" was fatally shot and killed by a crazed fan. His death was mourned all around the by not only beatle fan, but by all music lovers as he was an icon. He wrote and sang classics such as, Imagine, Stand by Me, All you Need is Love, and many more. He was inducted into the 1994 Music Hall of Fame. Today the Beatles and Lennon are still enjoyed by many having 1.7 billion streams 2019 nearly 40 years after his death. -

January 20, 1981 America saw one of the most popular presidents of all time enter the oval office, Ronald Wilson Reagan. Previously a football player at Eureka College in Illinois, a member of the U.S. Airforce during WWII, and an actor, Reagan was a man of many talents. His economic policy, also known as "Trickle Down" economics is an idea still loved by many today. Cutting gorwth on gov't spending, cutting regulations on business, lead to a 17% Median personal income increase, and much more. -
Michael Jackson's Thriller
This was the year that Michael Jackson rose to extreme fame with the drop of his album Thriller. A 9 song project with hits such as Beat it, P.Y.T., Thriller and Beat it. In 2019 he averaged 16 million streams per week, proving he is still a very popular artist to this day. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice, once in 1997 as a member of the Jackson 5 and again in 2001 as a solo artist. Many adults today can still remeber the first day they heard this iconic album. -
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word was an innovation ahead of it's time. You could use it with a mouse, you could undo, make words bold, use italics. At the time this was not well recieved by the public, however over time it has become one of the most used tools in internet history. Personally as a child I remember making projcets on Word, thinking about how grown up I felt using it. Word is just one of many Microsoft innovations that has changed the world. -
Apple Macintosh
The Apple Macintosh was released in 1984, selling for $2,500. It was the first mass produced Apple computer with a mouse and had a built-in graphical user interface. Despite being more expensive than its competitors it sold relatively well, its success could be attributed to the famous Ridley Scott directed commercial aired during the superbowl that same year. We all know Apple today for their smart phones, but their state of the art Mac books are also a huge part of their success. -
Windows V.1
We all use or know someone who uses windows. It is one of the best personal computer operating systems ever created. In 1985 Microsoft released the very first Windows software to the public. Ironically Windows was designed for the first Apple Mac that was released a year prior. At the time critics hated Windows because it was centered around mouse use at a time when they were not used wide spread. However, no critic could've seen that V.1 was the first step into a whole new woeld of tehnology. -
Operation El Dorado Canyon
The U.S and libya weren't always on bad terms. However after finding out they funded mutiple terrorists groups, and after a few terror attacks killing or injuring many Americans Reagan took actions. Qaddafi a leader in Libya lost his daughter due to the bombings and eventually got on good terms with America. We still feel the effects of this as in 2011 Qaddafi was murdered because of massive political protests caused by the US. -
The Simpons Shorts
The Simpsons is an American classic that is still running on television today. It has been running for so long mutiple generations have enjoyed watching new episodes. What most people don't know is that this amazing classic started out as small shorts. The first short titled "Goodnight" aired in April 19, 1987. With a running time of only 1 minute and 48 second, it is amazing how this show grew to become one of the most recognizable tv series of all time. -
Die Hard
Die Hard is an American action film starring Bruce Willis, about a NYC police officer who goes to L.A. to visit his wife when the party their attending is attacked by terrorists. I won't spoil anything on the very off chance you haven't seen one of the best action movies ever created. The movie pioneered the solo hero action film. Todays Die Hard has become a franchise of 5 movies, with a number of videogames and a comic book. It is a movie that has a special place in the hearts of many. -
Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall was constructed by the GDR to sepeerate Western Berlin from East Germany. While the wall was erected it prevent almost all emigration. After revolutions in Poland and Hungary there was a chain reaction that eventually resulted in the wall coming down. Sparking the eventual end of communism and the Cold war in 1991. Today the wall is a symbol that no matter how much evil trys, good will always pull through.
