First Space Shuttle Launch
Space Shuttle Columbia was the first of several reusable space craft built to enter orbit and return to Earth. The missions of these craft were confined to low Earth orbit. -
Challenger Disaster
This major event occurred when two sealing O-rings didn't stand the pressure of the launch due to frigid conditions. Then a strut broke and one of the boosters exploded the fuel tank. Most famous among the casualties was Teacher Christa McAuliffe, who was to be the first teacher in space. -
Berlin Wall comes down
Built on August 13, 1961, the Berlin wall stood for 28 years as a symbol of the division between Communism and Capitalism. After the Communist party re-allowed free access between East and West Berlin, hundreds of thousands of people from both sides chipped pieces away for souvenirs. Within a year both sides of Berlin were finally reunited. -
Gardner Museum Theft
Considered one of the greatest art heists in History. Two men, disguised as police officers walked into the Gardner Museum and stole half a million dollars worth of paintings. They have yet to be recovered. -

This "military Action" was the UN's response to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. 140,000 US troops were deployed in a war that lasted just a hair over a month. Superior UN firepower decimated enemy forces. -
9/11
An event that shaped the new millennium, and the effects of which are still felt today. Four planes were hijacked by Muslim terrorists: two hit the World Trade Centers, one hit the Pentagon, and one was crashed by the terrorists when the passengers attempted to recapture the plane. -
