    On May 4th the Ohio national guardsmen fired into the rioting crowd of Kent State. The students were protesting American involvement in Vietnam and started to throw rocks at the guardsmen that were trying to shut down the protests. There were four students killed and many others injured.

Besides this being one of the most memorable moments in baseball history it was also an important moment in the history of racial discrimination. Aaron received death threats warning against his breaking Ruth's record but he persisted anyways.
