1st Womens Studies program
In 1970, San Diego State open the 1st Womens Studies program. Cornell would later open one, along with many the following years. It is for the research, and teaching of Feminism. -

Womans Sufferage
Marking the 50th anniversary of women's sufferage, people held a nationwide strike for women's equality. It was oganized by the National Organization of Women (NOW). It was planned back in March by Betty Friedan. New York had th onne of the largest groups protesting. Groups like the New York Radical Women, and Redstockings attended. -
Reed Vs. Reed
It ruled that the perferring males over females was a violation of the the 14th amendment. It started out of Idaho, over property being settled. -
Eisenstadt Vs. Baird
Allowed umnmarried couples the right to buy birth control, and other items in this area. Before hand, Baird was charged with a felony, becuase he gave contraceptives to an unmarried couple. Only doctors, or pharamcists could provide to unmarried couples. -
Roe Vs. Wade
This would become a huge case that would legalize abortion in all 50 states. It would overturn a Texas court decision, and make the early stages of pregnancy free of restrictions.Later months would hold some restictions. -
Frontiero v. Richardson
It ruled that sex descrimination for military benifits was unconstitutional. They had a different criterias for men and women to obtain benefits. It began when Sharon Frontiero was denied benefits for her husband. -
Fair Housing Act of 1968
This Act would be amended to other ways of life. It turned to have equality in gender, race, national origin, religion, and culture. This was a plan that was pushed due to civil rights in the 1960's. -
Combahee River Collective
This group first meet in 1974, and was made of african- american feminists. They became a group, because they thought that the media only focused in white middle class women. It was named after a raid to free hundreds of slaves, led by Harriet Tubman. -
Taylor Vs. Louisiana
The ruling was that it was unconstitutional to deny women jury service. Louisiana kept women off the juries, leaving only men to make them up. Taylor was convicted, and fought that the jury wasn't put together constitutionally. -
International Women's year.
The United Nations declared 1975 International Womens year. They also held the first conference on women. It was held down in Mexico City. -
Chrysalis Published
It was a magizine all about women's culture. It was founded in Los Angeles, at the Woman's Building. It showed feminism art, and addressed central issues too. -
Iris Rivera protest
She was a legal secretary.nShe was fired from her job, because she refused to make someone coffee. Protest broke out due to the firing, and it made headlines everywhere. They also were paid low, and worked long hours. They were also pushing for better wages. -
ERA Deadline Extended
The ERA ratification deadline was extended from 1979 to 1982. Though a good cause, it would fal only 3 states short of being put in the Constitution. -
