Cigarette ads are banned on TV (1970-1971)
President Richard Nixon signed legislation to banned cigarettes ads on TV. The last broadcast of a cigarette commercial or TV show was on the John Carson Show on January 1st, 1971. The reason why Nixon banned the commercials was because it interfered with public health problems. The brake up of The Beatles
The break-up of the Beatles was a one of the most popular break-up in history. It almost became a legend for the band or the music. The Beatles started in 1960 and roughly ended in 1970. There were many causes to the break-up of the Beatles. One cause was the death of their manager, Brian Epstein. Apollo 13 suffers from a huge setback.
Apollo 13 suffered from an explosion in the tone of the oxygen tanks. The result came out to aborting the mission. Apollo 13 launched on a Saturn V pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center on April 11th, 1970. Soon on April 17th, 1970, the crew finally got to land on the moon. 18 year olds given to vote (1970-1971)
On July 1st, 1971, the 26th Amendment was passed stating that anyone over 18 years old can vote. The amendment was adopted in response to student activism against the Vietnam War. Opening in Orlando, Florida, Walt Disney opened his own amusement park. Before the opening of the Walt Disney World, about 300,000 people were estimated to be in the Magical Kingdom; when opened. On October 24, 1945, the Republic of China joined the UN. There were two different groups in China, the Republic of China and The Peoples Republic of China. The Republic of China joined the UN on Oct. 24th, 1945 to council and The Peoples Republic of China joined on Nov. 24th, 1971. Nixon visits China

HBO or Home Box Office is a program to watch movies or shows worldwide. It was created by Time Warner, a group that broadcast and created HBO. The website launched on November 8th, 1972. HBO is mostly on the internet, it contains over thousands of movie and television shows. Now, 2012, HBO has over 29 million subscribers in the US. Last man on the Moon
On December 7th, 1972, Apollo 17th was the eleventh final mission by man in the American Space Program. It launched at 12:33am EST. There were three crew members, Commander Eugene Cernan, Command Module Pilot Ronald Evans, and Lunar Module Pilot Harrison Schmitt. Abortion legalized in US
On January 22nd, 1973, Roe, a pregnant woman, argued between her doctor, Wade, to get an abortion. She asked from an abortion in the early days of pregnancy to avoid have a child. So, she took this argument into court against the doctor. On July 10th, 1973, John Paul Getty III got kidnapped at Piazza Farnese in Rome. It was approximately 3 am when he got kidnapped. On that day, his family received a ransom note for $17 million dollars in exchange for his safety. Day by day there would be bits of ransom notes demanding for money. John on the other hand was blind folded and imprisoned in a mountain hide out. One of the notes that the kidnapper sent was,"This is Paul's ear. On January 2nd, 1974, the Emergency Highway Energy Conservation Act was passed to prohibit any speed limit higher than 55mph. By the time the law was passed, 12 states already had 55 as the maximum speed limit, 9 states has 50, and 29 had lower that 50 mph. Girls allowed to play Little League Baseball
On November 7th, 1974, Judge Sylvia Pressler opened the program for girls to play on the Little League baseball. Saigon Falls to Communism
On April 30th, 1957, Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam, fell to the Vietcong. The Vietcong was a Vietnamese supporting group of communist National Liberation. Francisco Franco Dies
On November 25th, 1975, Francisco Franco died. Franco died because of Parkinson’s disease. This disease killed him when he was 83 when he died. Red No. 2 Food Dye Banned
On February 1st, 1976, Red food dyes #2 was banned. This dye was banned because of the harmful chemicals in it. Without this dye, a lot of things, like food, wouldn’t be the same. Mao Tse-tung Dies
On September 9th, 1976, Mao Tse-tung suffered from a severe heart attack. The death of Mao’s death wasn’t only planed, but he wasn’t instructed on it; the leader of this medical procedure, his last wife, Jiang Qing.
