Democrat John F. Kennedy runs against Republican Richard Nixon. JFK was much more attractive than Nixon but he had no mandate. Also he had no political experience. JFK won by a landslide. -

JFK hoped for a world in which nations worked together peacefully to solve problems, which is why he created the Peace Corps.This program sent volunteers abroad as educators, health workiers, and technicians to help developing nations around the world. -
Integration at "Ole Miss"
James Meredith was an African American Air Force veteran who fought a person battle for equal rights. He wanted to transfer to an all-white University of Mississippi known as "Ole Miss". After he got rejected, he got help from the NAACP. He claimed a lawsuit that his application was turned down on racial grounds. Even after the Supremes Court decision, the dean of Ole Miss still turned down Meredith's application. Then President Kennedy sent marshals to accompany Meredith to the campus. -

Cuban Missile Crisis
Pictures revealed that USSR was building missile nases on Cuban soil, which was only 90 miles west of Florida. Then the Cuban Missile Crisis happened, which was a standoff between the US and USSR that brought the superpowers to the brink of nuclear war. -

March on Washington
More than 200,000 people from all over the country came to call for "jobs and freedom" The march was led by A. philip Randolph. -

JFK was excited for the reelection so we went to Texas to get support. He was driving in a limo during a parade. Then a man from the 6th floor of the Texas School Book Despository aimed his rifle. He was pronounced dead at 1:00 p.m -

Martin Luther King Jr. stood on the balcony of his motel and a bullet fired from a high-powered rifle which tore into him. He was pronounced dead an hour later. -
Robert F. Kennedy Assasination
Senator Robert f. Kennedy was battling Mccarthy in the Democratic primary elections and won a key victory in California's primary. After giving his victory speech in a LA hotel, he was shot by an assassin and died the next day. -
