Soviet Union moved nuclear missles to Cuba. Resulting in the fear of a nuclear crisis happening as it was near the United States. Forcing Soviet Union to remove the missles. -
Hotline
A famous hotline between the states of Moscow-Washington hotline. It was known as the “Red Telephone” and it was a direct communications link made in the wake of the Cuban Missile Crisis. -
Limited Test Ban Treaty (LTBT)
Treat that prohibits all test detonations of nuclear weapons except underground. It was meant to develop to slow the arms race and to stop the excessive release of nuclear fallout. It was signed and ratified by the governments of the Soviet Union and United Kingdom and the United States. -
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
A joint resolution that the United States Congress passed in response to the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. This involved North Vietnam and the United States that had two separate confrontations in the waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. August 2, 1964 the destroyer USS Maddox engaged three North Vietnamese Navy torpedo boats. This resulted in a sea battle. -
Vietnamization
A policy made by Richard M. Nixon during his administration with the Vietnam War. To “expand, equip, and train South Vietnam’s forces and assign to them an ever-increasing combat role, at the same time steadily reducing the number of U.S combat troops.” -
Tet Offensive
A military campaign by the forces of the Viet Cong going against South Vietnam, the United States, and their allies. It was made of surprise attacks that were launched against not only military but also civilian command during a period where no attacks were supposed to take place. It happened because it was prior to an agreement to “cease fire”. -
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
It is an international treaty to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology. This was used to promote cooperation for the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. As its further goal is to achieve nuclear disbarment and general and complete disbarment.
