What:A failed military invasion of Cuba under taken by the CIA
Where: Bay of Pigs- An inlet of the Gulf of Cazones located on the Southern Coast of Cuba
When: April 17, 1961
Why: The point of this invasion was to destroy Castro's tiny air force, making it impossible for his military to resists the invaders. -
Berlin Wall Created
Who: German Democratic Republic(GDR)
Where: East and West Berlin
When: August 16, 1961
What: A concrete and barbed wire wall(Antifascist Schultz) is built between East and West Berlin
Why: The Wall was intended to keep "fascists" that were from West Berlin from entering East Germany and to undermined the socialistic state.
Significance: It symbolized the lack of freedom under Communism and the divided between the Soviets and the Western Democratic/Capitalistic countries. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
U.S and Soviet union, 13 day political and military standoff in October 1962, installation of nuclear armed soviet missiles on Cuba 90 miles from U.S shore, direct and dangerous confrontation between the U.S and the soviet union -
Hot Line Established

When: June 20, 1963
What: The British and Americans created safety valve communication between the U.S. and the Soviets.
Why: It was made to facilitate communication between the president and the Soviet premier in order to help reduce the risk of nuclear war.
Significance: President John F. Kennedy became the first of many presidents to have direct contact with Russia's leader Kremlin.Also helped stop close nuclear war. -
Limited Test Ban Treaty
Who: The United States, the Soviet Union, Great Britain--John F.Kennedy, Nikita Khrushchev
What: Banned all nuclear tests in the atmosphere, in space, or underwater
Where:Signed in the John F. Kennedy Library
When:Signed on August 5, 1963 went into effect on October 10, 1963
Why:Concerns emerged worldwide about the potential effects of radioactive fallout on the people exposed to it. -
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
Who:President Lyndon Johnson, Vietnam
What:Granted President Lyndon B. Johnson the authority to assist any Southeast Asian country whose government was considered to be jeopardized by communist aggression. Came to be known as the start of the American involvement in the Vietnam War. (Some say the attacks didn't really happen.)

Gulf of Tonkin Resolution Continued
Why: Congress passed this resolution because of the Gulf of Tonkin incident.Congress passed it because they thought that in the future the president would seek approval before starting a war in Vietnam. -

What: A series of attacks that were coordinated by North Vietnam on South Vietnam and American troops
Why: The purpose was to achieve decisive victory in order to change the conflict that was frustrating both sides.
Significance: Played an important role in the U.S, loosing support form the public for the war; Showed public the U.S./Vietnam weren't doing as well in the war. -

U.S joined the Vietnam war on march 8th of 1968, conflict between north Vietnam and South Vietnam and there ally the U.S, communist forces ended the war by seizing control of South Vietnam -

What: Policy put in place during the Nixon Administration; program would equip, train and expand the South Vietnam forces against North Vietnam
Why: Created to reduce the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War
Significance: Began the process of Vietnamizing the war and the gradual removal of American involvement but Nixon only ended up expanding the war even more
