    A group of students launch protests against segregation at a "Whites only" lunch counter of the Woolworth store in Greensboro, NC. Participants often threatened all local people, which lead to increased national sentiment at a crucial period in US history.

    United Farm Workers Foundation
    Organizing Committee Headed by Cesar Chavez, it succeeded in helping to improve working conditions. It was organized to help mainly the Chicano population.
  • The Feminine Mystique

    The Feminine Mystique
    Betty Friedan depicted how difficult a woman's life is because she doesn't think about herself, only her family. It said that middle-class society stifled women and didn't let them use their talents.
  • The Birmingham Children's Crusade

    The Birmingham Children's Crusade
    The Birmingham children's crusade was a non-violent movement for the sake of the basic civil rights for African American's. Although this movement was supposed to be non-violent, police responded by using water cannons, as well as attack dogs. Which goes to show the thoughts of the colored people.

    "On March 7, 1965, the civil rights movement in Alabama took an especially violent turn as 600 peaceful demonstrators participated in the Selma to Montgomery march to protest the killing of a black civil rights activist by a white police officer and encourage legislation to enforce the 15th amendment.

    The new voting law banned all voter literacy tests and provided federal examiners in certain voting jurisdictions. As well as allowing the attorney general to contest state and local poll taxes.

    Invalidated laws prohibiting interracial marriage. Supreme Court upheld the convictions and the Lovings appealed to the Supreme Court. Involved Mildred Jeter an African American woman and Richard Lovings a White man.

    African American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. assassinated for wanting all races to become equal and alike as one.
  • Fair Housing Act of 1968

    Fair Housing Act of 1968
    The fair housing act of 1968 prevented housing discrimination based on race, sex, national origin and religion. It was also the last legislation enacted during the civil rights era. The efforts of civil rights activists and countless protestors of all races brought about legislation to end segregation, black voter suppression and discriminatory employment and housing practices.
