Malcom X was signifigant because he refusued to go by his last name because he felt like it was given to him by his ancestor's slave owners. When X was assasinated, it gave people yet another loss of hope for civil equality. -

Star Trek premired on NBC for the first time in '66. People appreciated it then because it was one of the first futuristic shows that gave people an idea on what the future may have been. -
My Lai Massacre
The My Lai Massacre wa during the Vietnam war. A bunch of unarmed Vietnamese citizens were killed by the army and the government tried to hide it for 18 months after it happened. -

Dr. King was shot and killed in his hotel in Tennessee. This was signifigant because Dr. King was a symbol of hope for most African Americans so people lost a lot of hope after he was killed. -

U.S. Pulls Out of Vietnam
The US agreed to withdraw all its troops from Vietnam in 60 days. Congress had stopped funding the war effort. The North Vietnamese government agreed to release all prisoners, which they never did. Free elections were to be held in Vietnam. -
Abortion Leagalized
The Court ruled, 7 to 2, that a right to privacy under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment extended to a woman's decision to have an abortion. -

"Jonestown" was the informal name for the Peoples Temple Agricultural Project formed by the Peoples Temple. In 1978, cult leader Jim Jones instructed his followers to commit "revolutionary suicide" by drinking cyanide-laced fruit punch. -

Regan's assassination attempt happened only 69 days into his presidency. He was leaving hishotel when someone tried to shoot him. His secret servicemen took the bullets and Regan was only wounded. -

Code-named Operation El Dorado Canyon, the US administered air strikes at Libya. The attack was carried out by the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps via air strikes, in response to the 1986 Berlin discotheque bombing. There were 40 deaths in Libya, and one US plane down. -

Iran Air Flight 655 was an Iran Air civilian passenger flight from Tehran to Dubai that was shot down by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes. The attack took place in Iranian airspace, over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. 290 died. -
